11 Delicious Hot Chocolate Drinks

Cookies and Cream Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup hot chocolate mix
  • 6 Oreo cookies
  • Whipped cream for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  • In a small saucepan, heat milk until very hot but not boiling. Alternately, you can heat the milk in the microwave.
  • In the pitcher of your blender, add hot milk, Oreos and hot chocolate mix.
  • Pulse until cookies are completely ground and there are no large pieces.
  • Pour into two mugs and garnish with whipped cream and crushed cookies, if desired.

Note: Cookies and Cream Hot Chocolate is best served immediately.

2 Ingredient Nutella Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbsp Nutella
  • 1 cup milk (any kind)
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate syrup, chocolate shavings

Instructions:

  • Heat milk in a small saucepan over medium-high heat until steaming (not boiling), stirring occasionally.
  • Add in the Nutella, and whisk until dissolved.
  • Serve immediately, either plain or with your desired toppings.

Note: Add in a pinch of espresso powder for an extra coffee-ish taste!

Red Velvet Hot Cocoa

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of skim {or 1% milk}
  • 1/2 cup of chopped bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate {chocolate chips work well}
  • 1 – 1 1/2 tsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • for the whipped cream:
  • 1/4 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 Tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Instructions:

  • Heat the milk over medium.
  • Whisk in the chocolate, and stir until melted.
  • Stir in the food coloring and the vanilla.
  • Whip the cream with the sugar and vanilla.
  • Serve the hot chocolate topped with whip and chocolate shavings.

Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

For hot chocolate:

  • 1-1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter

For topping:

  • 1 cup cold heavy whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • Chocolate Syrup
  • 2 tablespoons melted peanut butter

Instructions:

For hot chocolate:

  • Add milk, chocolate chips and peanut butter into your high speed blender.
  • Top the blender and process on high for 4-5 minutes until the mixture is hot and frothy.
  • Pour hot chocolate into 2 mugs.

For topping:

  • While your hot chocolate is processing make whipped cream.
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer add whipping cream and sugar.
  • Whip until the mixture has reached soft peaks.
  • Top hot chocolate with equal amount of whipped cream and drizzle on chocolate syrup and melted peanut butter.

Notes: If you do not own a high powered blender just add all hot chocolate ingredients to a small saucepan and warm on the stove over medium heat until hot and creamy.

White Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 12 oz. white chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste or 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp kosher salt
  • Pink gel food coloring
  • Frosting

Instructions:

  • Combine milk, chocolate, vanilla, and salt in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until mixture is hot and chocolate is melted and smooth (do not let boil), 6 to 8 minutes.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to frosting and stir twice to create a swirl pattern; carefully transfer to a piping bag. Pipe on top of hot chocolate in mugs.

Creamy S’mores Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk 
  • 1 cup water (or sub more milk)
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp light chocolate syrup
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp sugar to taste
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Graham crackers (crushed – for lining rim)
  • ½ cup marshmallows

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to low broil and move oven rack to the second from the top (high enough up to broil your marshmallows). Place baking sheet on rack.
  2. Heat milk and water in a saucepan over medium heat until warmed through – about 5 minutes. Be careful not to overheat or scald.
  3. Add cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, sugar and salt and whisk vigorously until thoroughly combined.
  4. Meanwhile, take a few marshmallows and rub them around the top of your mugs so the graham crackers will stick. Then, dip mug in graham cracker crumbs until well lined. You could also add some graham cracker crumbs to the bottom of your mug for extra graham flavor.
  5. Pour in hot chocolate and top with 1/4 cup marshmallows each. Carefully set mugs on the baking sheet in the oven and broil marshmallows until browned, watching carefully as to not let them burn.
  6. Carefully remove from the oven with a towel and serve with holders or a small towel to protect hand from heat (they should cool quickly for handling). Top with a drizzle of chocolate syrup and extra graham cracker crumbs for serving (optional).

Notes: Adjust flavors before serving, adding more chocolate or sugar if you prefer.

Cheesecake Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ounces white chocolate, chopped
  • 2 ounces cream cheese (room temperature) and cut into 16 pieces
  • Graham cracker crumbs and whipped cream, for garnish

Instructions:

  • In a medium saucepan, warm up the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  • Turn the heat down to low then whisk in the vanilla cream cheese until melted.
  • Whisk in the white chocolate until melted and smooth.
  • Serve immediately** with whipped cream and graham cracker crumbs on top, if desired.

Notes: The cream cheese needs to be at room temperature or even slightly softer. Otherwise, the hot chocolate mixture may become lumpy. If it does become lumpy, you can use the blender to help smooth it.
The drink does thicken as it cools down. Just heat it back up in the microwave.

Hot Chocolate Coffee

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 12 tsp. instant coffee, or more to taste
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp. sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions:

  • In a mug, add the cocoa powder, sugar, coffee, salt, and the condensed milk.
  • In a small pot, add the milk and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  • Remove and transfer the milk to the mug; stir until the ingredients are incorporated, about 1 minute.

Mint White Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups half & half
  • 1 12 ounce bag white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract or mint extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: A few drops of green food coloring
  • Marshmallows for topping

Instructions:

  • In a large pot, add milk and half-and-half, and heat over medium heat until steam-y but not boiling.
  • Stir in the white chocolate chips. Continue stirring until chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is creamy.
  • Stir in food coloring and extracts. Stir until smooth. Serve warm.

Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk , preferably whole
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • Sweetened whipped cream or vanilla marshmallows
  • Grated chocolate for garnish , optional

Instructions:

  • Prepare caramel sauce according to directions listed and allow to cool slightly.
  • Heat milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Once milk is warm, stir in chocolate chips and caramel, and cook whisking constantly until chocolate has melted.
  • Allow to cool slightly and serve warm topped, topped with sweetened whipped cream or miniature marshmallows, drizzle each serving with 1 tbsp caramel sauce and garnish with grated chocolate if desired.
  • For a richer hot chocolate, you can use up to 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips and mix in more caramel sauce as well if desired.

Ginger Bread Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • Whipped cream for topping

Instructions:

  • In a medium saucepan over low heat, heat milk.
  • While warming the milk, combine the cocoa powered, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, allspice and ginger in a small bowl.
  • Whisk into the milk until hot.
  • Serve with whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon.
